Yes! The Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2020-2021 Collection is just about to start next Monday, 6th July, and I’m so happy and excited! This edition will be completely different to what has traditionally been, as the brands will show their collections online, due to the situation with the pandemic we’re going through, and I think adapting the format of an event of such magnitude, is the perfect example of the saying “The show must go on”.
I agree that seeing the shows on line doesn’t compare to experiencing Fashion Week on site, cause even when the schedule is sometimes downright frantic, it also has that magic that you only get to experience once you’re in Paris, in the show you have been waiting for and experiencing it surrounded by people that are passionate about fashion. However I think the decision to go online with this events, reflects the capacity we have to adapt and innovate, even when the circumstances are not the ones we want.
This will be the first time ever that the shows will be open almost to everyone as everyone will have access to videos, interviews and mini documentaries, with interactive material that the public in general will have access to. So, even if you didn’t have in your plans going to FWHC, you’ll still be able to experiencing it, even if you can’t be in the actual catwalks.
I’m actually excited to see Dior’s collection on Monday, along with Ralph & Russo; Tuesday Chanel will present its collection and on Wednesday we´ll get to see Valentino among other wonderful and iconic brands. I’m sure that even if I’m not going to be running from one show to the other, the time difference with Paris, will prove to be a different challenging situation.
The content will be available at Hautecouture.fhcm.paris/ where you can check the calendar to see the shows that will be presenting, and I don’t know, maybe we’ll be seeing the exact same shows at the exact same times! I’d love to know your opinions of the shows, so why don’t you send me a DM or message so we can all talk about our favorite pieces?
Women have a very special relationship with makeup, it helps us out to amplify our beauty and we have been using it since centuries ago, for example Greek women used charcoal as eyeshadow and white powder to lighten their skin. Some people criticize using makeup saying that it’s an attempt to hide behind a “mask” and that is related to confidence issues, I think that in some cases that might be true, but a lot of us wear makeup because we love it and can be as confident with or without it.
For me, makeup is another way to express myself, just as fashion. Through makeup I can change the way I look giving a wide variety of options: I can choose an everyday, very light look or I can choose a very dramatic sexy look. And like a lot of women, I’ve personally experienced the empowerment of wearing a red lipstick and knowing that I look great!
Some of you have been asking me about some tips for doing my makeup and I really want to share with you some very useful tips that I’ve learned from some of the best makeup artists that I’ve had the pleasure to work with. While I was writing this, I realized that I, in fact, have a lot of useful tips, so I decided to make this a two-part post so you can have all those tips! And without further delay here they are:
- Before applying your makeup, take a moment to appreciate the “you” without makeup, fall in love with your features as they are uniquely yours.
- Try to get in the habit of using your makeup time to drink a glass of water (or two)
- Be sure to apply your makeup in a well-lit area, meaning make sure you have light on both sides of your face. Applying your makeup in front of a window is a great idea!
- Pick one feature you want to emphasize and the go for it
- Good brushes, like good makeup are worth the investment.
- If you’re dealing with a pimple or a breakout, apply a couple of eyedrops to the irritated spot. This will reduce the redness a little… but it’s nor acne killer, it’s just a temporary fix so you can cover it more easily with makeup.
- If you want a smooth, flawless finish on your skin, blend, blend and blend. The best blending is achieved by moving your brush in a circular motion.
- When applying your foundation remember that you don’t want people to see it when you leave your house!
- To choose the right color for your foundation match it to the color of skin of your collar bone or chest, not on your neck as it is lighter.
- You can apply some contouring underneath the tip of the nose to give the illusion of shortening the nose.
- To find the apples of your cheeks, simply smile!
- Applying blush on the apple of the cheeks makes up the face more youthful, applying blush under the cheekbones slims the face and makes it appear drawn.
- Cream blush can be used on the lips for a softer and more natural look.
- When lining your lips, you can also use a pencil that’s labeled as “eyebrow pencil”, if you like the color, you can use it for lining your lips, in fact, it might last longer!
- Always be sure to line directly on the lip border or just inside it, but never outside the lips!
- When choosing your eye shadows try to pick the ones that contrast with your eye color, instead of trying to match the color of your eyes.
- For eyelashes that stay curled, hold down the eyelash curler for a count of 20 and then apply mascara immediately.
- You can warm up your eyelash curler by rubbing the part you apply to the lahes back and forth between your fingers
- Don’t pump the wand into the mascara as that incorporates air into the product and dries it out. Instead swirl the wand in the tube.
- When applying liquid eyeliner first remove the excess liquid on the palm of your hand, so that it’s not so wet and you can have more control when applying the line.
- If you mess up your liquid liner, just grab a q-tip, put a drop of corrector and wipe away the liner.
- Sometimes you can accentuate your eyes just with false eyelashes instead of putting eye shadow.
- If you want your makeup to last longer, spay a hydrating mist after you apply your setting powder.
What do you think? Do you have your own useful tips for make up? It’d be great if you’d share them so we all can learn more tips!
The events of these past week have been filled with worldwide protests against racial injustice and police brutality after George Floyd’s death. I’ve been trying to process the shock and sadness this news brought on, I’ve been trying to find the right words to express the thoughts and feelings the death of this innocent man and countless others has left. Like many others, I haven’t experienced the fear many black people go through every day, I’ve never have to worry about explaining my children what they should do in case they get detained by the police, however is heartbreaking to know that someday I’m going to have to explain to them racism and how it’s possible that some human beings can treat other human beings with such disdain and cruelty.
I could keep talking about the injustice of all this, however, I don’t want to contribute to generate more violence and hate. Like many others, I want a different world for my kids as there is more than enough hate in this world as it is, and I know that I want to do whatever I can to be a part of that change we so much need!
After much thinking about how I could actively contribute, I realized that Black voices have been silenced for a long time in a lot of our society’s aspects, so I decided to make a little research about what I’m passionate about: fashion and beauty , and share with you the Black-owned brands we can support, because I think that besides educating ourselves about racism, we can look at where we spend our money and I think right now there are a lot of very talented Black designers whose high-end fashion, sustainable clothing and products need to be highlighted:
CHRISTOPHER JOHN ROGERS. The Washington Post said “His work is boisterous, deafening and dramatic. Sometimes it’s extraordinarily, proudly gaudy. He is the fashion industry’s latest obsession” and has some gorgeous pieces! @christopherjhonrogers
CUSHNIE. Cushnie is a New York-based label run by Carly Cushnie t can easily be described as a red-carpet favourite, but the label is also one to bookmark for elegant day-to-day pieces including silky bodies, midi dresses, sharp blazers and chic jumpsuits. @cushnie
BENEATH YOUR MASK. After Dana Jackson, Founder of Beneath your Mask was diagnosed with and battled a severe form of Lupus, she looked for a product to help repair the damage done to skin and hair. She found only products that contained harsh chemicals, sytntheic fragrances and harmful toxins. She was inspired to create safe, non-irritating products that would not challenge the immune system and created products for herself made from the most potent, organic and wild-harvested botanicals available. @beneathyourmask
LAUREN NAPIER BEAUTY. Lauren Napier makes facial cleansing wipes with a difference – each comes in an individual sachet that’s perfect on-the-go and won’t dry out. Available in sets of three to 50, these disposable sheets have a textured finish and are enriched with soothing Aloe and Cucumber to calm and refresh your skin. @laurennapierbeauty
I think these are times where solidarity an empathy are in high need and we all as human beings, need to do better, but I’m an optimistic at heart and I’m sure we’ll get through these stronger than ever.
This quarantine has changed all our lives in ways that we never could’ve imagined and many of these changes have been for the best. Among other things, this pandemic has brought to life the generosity, solidarity and empathy from many people, brands, industries and businesses, a side that some time we forget exists in every one of us.
As you well know, I adore fashion. I’ve said many times before (and will continue to!) that for me fashion is a way of expression, of making a statement, of individuality. through fashion you can have that extra confidence boost we all need at certain times! And I’m aware that for some people, fashion and the fashion industry (luxury brands specially) seem superficial, frivolous and for the most extremely opinionated, downright unnecessary.
And that’s exactly what I want to talk about with you today! It’s undeniable that this pandemic changed the way things have been done in general and of course, the fashion industry wasn’t the exception, but it also wasn’t the exception when we talk about how this pandemic brought out the best of this industry.
During this times of uncertainty and of need I’m so happy to have witnessed how many of the brands I’ve collaborated with, and whose creations I’ve admired for a long time, have raised to the challenge and organized themselves to help.
Here are some examples: Burberry produced 100,000 medical graded masks and stopped its iconic raincoats’s production to produce medical gowns and masks. Kering Group, the corporation that owns brands as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and Bottega Veneta, among others (yes, those brands that you’ve read about during my trips to Fashion Week!) used their workshops, production equipment and supplies, to make medical gowns and medical masks and donated millions of dollars to World Health Organization’s Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
And not only the fashion corporations and brands were interested in helping. Fashions icons such as Donatella Versace, Michael Kors (personally) and Giorgio Armani among others, have also made generous donations directly to hospitals (Giorgio Armani donated 1.25 millions of euros to Milanese’s hospitals) and different funds. Ana Wintour and Tom Ford launched a fundraising called “A Common Thread” to help struggling fashion businesses amid the pandemic.
These are just some examples of what I was talking about before, I’m amazed and humbled to see all these iconic brands and people, united by the desire to help. It makes you wonder what we could all accomplish if we’d leave behind all those judgements of what’s frivolous and what is not, and use all that energy to see what we can do to contribute to our communities, our countries and the world in general. At least for me, this was a great show of altruism and unity, and has made me look for the places and situations where I can contribute to, what do you think?
As some of you know from my Instagram feed, I’ve been posting some stories with my “at home” workout routine and I want to share it with you here, with more detail in case you want to add something to your own workout routine or even want to start one.
Exercising has always been very important to me because is something that I enjoy and that helps me to unwind and relax, besides, I get restless if for some reason I can’t do any kind of exercise for a while. So during this quarantine when gyms are closed, I started my own at home routine (as many of us have been doing), and discovered that it actually is a lot of fun to include not only the exercises thar are good for certain areas of your body but also the ones that you enjoy the most. Are you ready then?
The first thing I do before any workout, is to warm-up. This part is super important and although it’s tempting to jump right into your workout, if you skip the warm-up, the whole routine turns less efficient for your body and you can get yourself injured, so here’s a super easy warm-up:
- Hip Circles, 8 reps outward, 8 reps inward. How to:
- Stand with your feet together.
- Raise one knee to 90 degrees. Circle the hip out making a big circle with your knee. Switch to your other leg
- Arm Circles, 8 reps forward, 8 reps backward. How to:
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, arms by your side.
- Slowly swing your arms forward in a circular motion
- Hip Lunge Stretch, 8 reps for each leg
- Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Step forward with your left leg so that you’re in a split-leg position.
- Step back with your right foot as far as you can and lower your hips until te front knee is bent to a 90 degree angle.
- Press your right hip forward to feel the stretch and remember to keep your back straight, hold and then switch legs.
- Calf Stretch. 8 reps for each leg
- Standing with the right foot in front and the left one in the back, bend your back knee slightly and lean your upper body forward as you support your hands on the bent thigh.
- Keep the right leg straight in front of you and push your right bottom out behind to stretch the front of the back thigh
- Switch legs.
After I’ve warmed up I switch to jumping rope. This is an excellent cardio exercise and can easily be done at home. If you don’t want to get tired soon, don’t swing the rope from your shoulders but from your wrists and don’t jump too high. So here’s a very simple routine:
- Jump rope at a regular bounce for 1 min
- Rest 1 min
- Jump rope skipping: hope over the rope with your right foot and the next time with your left foot. 1 min
- Rest 1 min
- Repeat for 20 min
From here you can start the workout routine you feel more comfortable with or the one that seems more fun to you as there are a lot of techniques you can try, from pilates and barre to crossfit. The equipment changes depending on what you want to achieve with your workout. However I recommend you to vary your workouts because it will not only bore you but it can keep you from getting the results you want, so experiment with different moves and different tools and keep things fun and enjoyable for you, and remember that is always best to check with your doctor if certain workout is good for you and your health.
Why don’t you send me your favorite workout routines that you’ve been doing during these days? Maybe we can compare notes!
I´m sure many of you have read and saw my different skincare routines here or on my Instagram, and I´m sure you have also seen in my stories some recipes I’ve shared with you that you may include in your beauty routines. This time I want to talk to you about the other part of my skincare routine. Let me explain, I’ve always thought that the foundation for a beautiful skin is to have first of all, a healthy skin and nutrition is the foundation of beauty.
“We are what we eat” is an old saying, but it keeps being accurate. We always hear how important is to have a healthy diet, but a good nutrition is more than just getting your daily allowance of vitamins and minerals, or counting calories, a good nutrition shapes all aspects of our appearance, our skin condition included.
There are a lot of great products for skincare in the market, and I’ve showed you my favorite ones, but if you notice that your skin is looking dull or dry, it could be a sign that something’s missing and could be the right moment to start nourishing your skin (and your beauty!) from the inside.
I could talk hours and hours about this topic, and tell you all I know about superfoods and superherbs and how great they are for your health in general, but I guess is a long long topic, one that we can explore together in different posts. So instead, I want to share with you one of my favorite recipes for skin care:
- 8 ounces of coconut water
- 4 inch piece, fresh aloe vera, without skin
- 1 orange, peeled
- 1 cup of fresh raspberries
- ½ inch piece of fresh ginger root
- 2 squirts of fulvic acid.
- 1 teaspoon MSM powder
- Stevia or raw organic honey
Blend all the ingredients in a high-speed blender and enjoy! This recipe hydrates your skin and the strawberries have more than twenty substances that prevent tissue from aging and taste great!
So, what do you think? Is this one recipe you would like to try?
A healthy skin will always be your best friend. It makes you look fresh, happy and regardless of your age, it helps you to look beautiful. On my A healthy skin will always be your best friend, as that is what makes you look fresh and that’s maybe why on my Instagram, I’m always sharing skincare tips, from the easiest routines, that don`t need any products in addition to those that you may have at home; to those that involve several steps, and several product. Today, I want to share a routine that I’m about to start, recommended by the dermatologist Amy Wechsler, who is Chanel’s skincare expert consultant. So let`s start!
The first step is to remove all your makeup. We need to get rid of all the makeup that could block our pores, in order to let other products get through the skin and get the most out of them. I’ll be using L’Eau Micellaire by Chanel, that’s ideal for all skin types.
Then, it’s time to start cleaning pores through a deep cleaning. For this step, the recommendation is La Mousse, that will help you get rid of impurities and other contaminating particles like sweat. If you’re performing this ritual at night, after this step you could use Le Lift, also by Chanel. This product will help you decrease signs of tiredness.
Next step: Lotion. Why are we using this? Well, lotion helps revitalizing, illuminating and restoring out skin. And nothing better than Le Blanc Essence Lotion to help us with all this.
We can`t forget the eyes. For this, I`ll be using Le Lift Concentré Yeux. This way we can show off a radiant look! And that’s because this product will deflate the eye contour with its natural origin components. If you can’t wait for the effects to be shown, you can always use Le Lift Flash Eye Revitalizer. It takes a two step process: first, the roll-on will help spread the vitamin serum and the eye patches will help you revitalize the area. This is one of those products that you must have always on your bag!
Then, it will be time to apply a Serum. Le Lift Sérum is my choice, because Then, it’s time to apply aserum. Le Lift Sérum is my choice, because it’s 93% composed of elements of natural origin. It will smooth and prevent oxidation of skin cells.
We`re almost finished! We have to hydrate the skin, and Chanel offers many options, but because I want a bigger concentration of natural assets I’ll use Sublimage L’Extrait to regenerate, repair and protect. And becauseas youknow, it’s important to protect your skin, it`s always recommended to use sunscreen.
UV Essentiel SPF 50 by Chanel is my choice here. It’ll protect your skin not only against UV rays, but also UVA and UVB, oxidative stress and will keep your skin be hydrated.
An extra tip: if you want to refresh your skin during the day, use mist. And Hydra Beauty is an excellent option to feel fresh all the time! It will not only energize your skin, but also will be accompanied by a fruity scent!
For me, wellness has always been an essential part of my and my family’s life, and it can include different areas such as the emotional, spiritual, physical, social and intellectual among others, that’s why during these quarantine times, is especially important not to forget to do all those things we’ve been doing in all those areas, so we avoid a burnout.
So, I wanted to share with all of you my favorite 5 wellness tips for this quarantine:
1. Make time for projects that make you happy. Make the purpose to spend time everyday doing something that you absolutely enjoy, you can spend time reading, journaling, doing yoga and even knitting if that’s what makes you happy!
For me, reading while having a face mask always helps me unwind and one of my favorite face masks is a honey avocado one, that helps you to soften and hydrate your skin, and you can even do it yourself! Here’s how: a. Ingredients: You’re going to need 2 or 3 avocados and ¼ cup of honey.
b. Cut the avocados in half and discard the pits, pull the avocado and mash it up in a bowl, add the ¼ cup of honey and blend the mixture together, rub this mixture in your face and leave it for 15 minutes, finally rinse with cool water.
2. Exercise. Your body needs to move and during this quarantine, it could be tempting to spend all your time watching your favorite series, so why not try to find that workout routine that would make exercise fun for you?
Maybe you love yoga, or barre, or spinning, or maybe you can find a combination of different styles and routines. For me, a workout session during the morning is a must (quarantine or not), but I understand that for some people, exercising could be some kind of torture, so my advice would be to find something that’s fun for you and seeing this routine as a way to keep your body healthy and fit.
3. Social Media Blackout. Let’s be honest, do you really think you need to stay connected 24/7 to be informed? Of course, it’s important to know what’s happening right now, specifically with this pandemic, but this can also increase your anxiety.
So maybe you’d like to stay a day without checking your social media accounts, I do it once a week and I’ve seen that just that tiny change in my routine, makes me feel recharged… and is also good for your eyes, your neck and wrists!
What do you think? Do you have some other tips that could be useful during this quarantine? I’m also thinking about a post with a workout routine, would you like to see that one? Let me know! And in the meantime, stay safe!
I truly believe that in hard times, thinking about the future is good for the mind. And right now, I pass my time not only watching movies, reading, having a good time with my family and bothering my brother Alex, but also living my passion through selection. I’ve been having a great time reviewing my favorite brand’s Spring-Summer 2020 collections, preparing the outfits I’d like to use this summer. Will you join me in this joyful adventure?
Let’s start with Fendi and its collection designed by, of course, Silvia Venturini Fendi. Silvia’s collection has sun vibes embodied all over it, melting between ultra-feminine silhouettes that I loved from beginning to end. As they describe it, their collection detaches a “new Borghese energy” through its transparencies and knitted garments, that I’d use at the beach or at a brunch with the sunset painting the sky. Flower patterns are all Fendi needed to wonder me, using colors such as pink, purple and blue matching with the well-known colors of the fashion house, yellow and brown. Choosing my musts was such a difficult task!

Dior, of course! Do you remember the catwalk? Models wandering among that trees, with outfits that looked like they came out of fairy tales, with the perfect combination of Mother Nature’s style and the rebel touch of the 21st century. Vintage flowers were the main protagonists of this collection, breaking through a delicate blue, contrasting with camel and exchanging places with black. The hats were the perfect complement. I can clearly see myself having a picnic with my children during this Spring using them. So, which ones were my favorites?

With classic bags in new textures and the iconic Chanel suit reinterpreted is how the French house captivated me. Virginie Viard did a splendid job capturing and shaping the essence of a Chanel girl, using classic patterns to further highlight a colorful collection. In this new installment, traditional designs met daring ones, in the form of dresses adorned with CHANEL patterns in pink, blue, black and white, styled with ankle strap sandals that I just loved! Oh, and the frills: blue, black, gray and white. The combinations were perfect. And Chanel couldn’t have chosen a better way to present its Spring-Summer 2020 collection. Somehow, the colors and pieces fit in perfectly with the landscape around. The collection said “Paris” in every look. And… My favorites!

Do you remember when I visited the YSL museum in Morocco during my last birthday? That was something I really wanted to do, because I love Saint Laurent. So, we couldn’t leave them out of my favorite Spring-Summer 2020 collections. At the usual spot, with the Eiffel Tower in the background, Saint Laurent gifted us with a collection that Anthony Vaccarello described as an ode to the bourgeois and the bohemian. YSL represents not only a brand or a designer, but a lifestyle. The Parisian lifestyle, with all its elegance translated to black and shining tailored suits, a combination of textures like vinyl, silk or leather. Using deconstructed and sensual pieces, with baroque patterns and animal print, Saint Laurent set the standard for this season. And what I liked the most?

And last but not least, Tom Ford. The director and fashion designer from the United States surprised us capturing the essence of New York in a simple and refined way. Solid and vivid colors shined on the catwalk; a palette difficult to describe, as the brand opted for a multiplicity of satin shades that gave a futuristic touch to this collection, where the makeup contrasted and complemented the looks, giving the necessary touches of sloppiness to the show. Inspired by the Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick, Chuck Wein emerging of the subway picture, taken by Burt Glinn, and by sportswear. Tom Ford created this pieces that I love:
What do you think? Which ones were your favorites? I know there are still so many brands to talk about. Let me know if you want a second part!
A few days ago, some of you maybe saw my Instagram’s stories where I was talking about the way I see the current world’s situation with coronavirus and the quarantine we’re living through. For those of you that couldn’t see the stories, I talked about how important is for all of us to work together so we can get through this together. Of course I´m concerned about what the future may bring but I’m convinced that there’s nothing we can’t face, as I’ve already said, together as a real community, a global community that remembers the importance of giving and receiving.
I also talked about how sometimes the content that some of us (influencers) post can seem to be shallow or frivolous, specially in times like the ones we’re living, but in reality what we are trying to do, at least what I’m trying to do with the content I post, is to give you a little respite from all the news’s bombarding that seems to be full of concern and only bad things to report. I want to show you in my social media that even in the middle of what could be seem as times of darkness, the world still offers us wonderful things and moments to look at, and thar are worthy to be showcased!
So, yes, you’re going to keep seeing posts about what I’m passionate about, but it was important to me to let you know that I acknowledge what’s going on in the world right now, that I care and most importantly, that I’m doing everything I can do to contribute to this global community I was talking about, so I ask you to do your best to contribute to this as well because I just know that we are going to get through this, and maybe once all of this is over, we´ll acknowledge the importance and beauty of being an essential part of this global community.
Please stay safe, pay attention to your authorities’ recommendations and stay at home as much as you can, and don’t forget to do what’s in your hands , to make this world a better place to live. Know that all of you are always in my thoughts!
